Camping

  Garden House Camping

Small, isolated, well sheltered camp site to the west end of the island, surrounded by the RSPB reserve. This site has facilities and the water is a private supply tested by the local Environmental Department.
The walled garden is listed by Historic Scotland for its historic value, and association with Breachacha New Castle.
We are a working farm and this means we must conform to DEFRA bio-security codes, and so we ask you to register on arrival.

Unserviced Camping

Wild Camping only allows a max of 3 nights in a spot and is only for those with backpacking sized tents, usually travellers backpacking, cycling or kayaking, i.e. not with any motorised vehicle..

If you wish to camp away from a campsite and out-with the limitations of the Wild Camping Access Code (part of Land reform Act 2003) you will need permission from the landowner and this is considered as Unserviced Camping.

Unserviced Camping where the Landowner's consent must be sought first:

SCOTTISH OUTDOOR ACCESS CODE

If you're planning a wild camping trip, be sure to familiarise yourself with the Scottish Outdoor Access Code - camping. It's not complicated - basically, campers should follow a policy of 'leave-no-trace'.

Here are some top points to follow:

  • Avoid overcrowding by moving on to another location if it's already a busy spot.
  • Use a stove, please no camp fire. Never cut down or damage trees.
  • Take away your rubbish and consider picking up other litter as well.
  • Don't camp in enclosed fields of crops or farm animals.
  • Keep well away from buildings, roads or historic structures.
  • If in doubt, ask the landowner. Their advice just might help you find a better camping spot.
