Breachacha Castle

Overlooking Breachacha Bay with its white sand beaches, this outland castle was built in 1750 and can be seen today as a hybrid of the original Georgian style and the Victorian Baronial style.

The name of the castle is derived from the Gaelic 'breacha' (beautiful) and 'acha' (field)--Machair speckled with wildflowers. It belongs to a magical setting with the prospect of the ocean beyond the bay and the drama of the ever-changing expanse of the sky that forms a daily breathtaking panorama to the South. Amazing light fills the castle through the large windows that are so unusual in a historical building in the North West of Scotland.

This is not a place of conventional luxury, its opulence being of a wilder kind, yet the castle is very comfortable, warm and welcoming. The luxury of this place is bound up with the pursuit of experience and silence, and removing inner stress from life--to live simply and unrushed amongst great beauty and splendid nature. Breachacha castle is surrounded by a microclimate that brings warmth and sunshine but is also of great storms. And astonishingly, unlike so much of the West coast, there are no midges.
