U3A

The University of the Third Age (U3A) is a nationwide organisation based on local groups providing opportunties for retired and semi-retired people to come together and develop their interests.

We are not a university in the traditional sense; we do not study for qualifications, we just enjoy taking part and meeting people.

What do we mean by the third age? It is the time after you have finished working or raising a family, following your first age of childhood dependence and your second age of full-time work or parental responsibility. The third age is when you can pursue your interests at leisure and really make the most of life.

It is all voluntary – members share their knowledge and experience with others in interest groups, running informal activity sessions covering a wide range of subjects and activities.

At a typical U3A group there are learning opportunies, outdoor pursuits, social events and outings on offer, including anything from bridge, to gardening, to theatre trips.

We have more that 900 U3As thoughout the UK with more than 350,000 members, and we are growing fast!

Annual Fees: £15.00 which covers national membership and insurance cover for U3A events. There are group activity fees according to needs of the group. Please come and join in and any good ideas for new groups are most welcome.
